A premature baby born at 27 weeks has survived the birth after she was placed in a special bag to regulate her body temperature.
Named Orla-May by her parents, the premature baby, born 13 weeks early, weighed just 490g at birth on 28 January.
It was thought that Orla-May would not survive. “We were told multiple times to prepare for the worst and that she was unlikely to make it”, said mum Emily.
“Nothing can prepare you for being told that your baby might not make it.
“I was terrified and nervous but luckily my partner was allowed in the room with me so I had some support.
“Despite being told her chances were slim, I kept a positive mindset and believing she was going to make it is what got me through.”
The young tot is currently in an incubator, but she is progressing well, according to her doctors.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “We wish Orla-May well. It is wonderful what the medical profession can achieve today in the area of neonatal care, preventing tragedies and sparing parents the heartbreak of losing a child.
“Life does, indeed, matter. Each human, no matter how tiny and weak should be given an opportunity to thrive.”
