Sign the Petition: End Pills-by-Post

  • Abortion rates are forecast to hit 300,000 a year1
  • Over 12,000 women were admitted to hospital with complications from abortion in 2023/242
  • In the same year, 6% of women using abortion drugs at home needed hospital treatment

Every abortion results in the loss of an irreplaceable human person. This loss of life is now at an unimaginable scale. The numbers increased by 17% from 2021 to 2022, and are expected to exceed 300,000 in 2024.

Abortion hurts women too. The “pills by post” policy, where women are sent abortion drugs in the post to take at home, has had devastating consequences for women, as well as fuelling the increase in abortion numbers.

To the Health Secretary:

I, the undersigned, call on you to conduct an urgent review into the “pills by post” abortion policy, introduced during the pandemic, which allows women to take abortion pills at home without an in person medical consultation. Evidence over the past four years shows this policy has led to significant risks, including abortions occurring beyond the legal limit – even up to term – along with poor regulation, increased cases of coercion and abuse, and rising numbers of women requiring hospital treatment due to complications. We urge you review this policy and ensure these failures are addressed.
