SPUC is calling upon pro-lifers to lobby the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe prior to a vote this Friday on a pro-abortion report. The report, promoted by Christine McCafferty, the veteran anti-life British MP, promotes abortion as a means of family planning and population control. The group says that the guarantees of Ireland's pro-life laws are not legally binding and could be ignored by the European Court of Justice. Mary Thornton, the organisation's spokesman, said in a press statement: "No to Lisbon is the only means of ensuring the continued protection of the right to life of the child embryo, in Ireland." [

James Weisgerber argued that legalising the practices would "result [in] a society even more fragmented, with its members living in greater isolation and anxiety."
