Abortion Doctor: "We’re facing the possibility that we’re going to be lacking a qualified workforce."
?Very few medical students are taking higher training in abortion.
The editor in chief of the Journal of Family Planning and Reproductive Health Care has said that "only 1% of trainee obstetricians and gynaecologists are taking higher training in abortion care."
Dr Sandy Goldbeck-Wood, clinical leader for abortion services at Cambridge University Hospitals, said that the fact that the majority of abortions take place in private clinics has had "a knock-on effect for integration and training" and medical students are "lacking the opportunity" to work in abortion. She said on the Today programme: "We're facing the possibility that we're going to be lacking a qualified workforce."
Dr Goldbeck-Wood also said that private clinics (such as BPAS and Marie Stopes) are "less good" at dealing with high risk cases. (See our press release on the CQC’s damning report into Marie Stopes.)
SPUC Chief Executive John Smeaton said "1%? Might not this extraordinarily low percentage reflect a natural human reluctance amongst trainee obstetricians and gynaecologists to kill babies in the womb?"

Former Scientologist: "If a Woman Got Pregnant, She'd be Instantly Scheduled for an Abortion"
A former Scientologist has said on a documentary that the church forced its members into having abortions.
Claire Headley, who was a member of the church's elite Sea Organisation for 30 years made the claims on "Scientology and the Aftermath", a documentary aired by American channel A and E on Tuesday. She told presenter Leah Remini, another former member of the organisation, that she was forced to have an abortion herself, and knows women who have had "up to six abortions". The Church of Scientology denied the claims in a statement.
