VIDEO: Former abortionist is changing minds on abortion

Dr Anthony Levatino performed 1,200 abortions and is now a pro-life campaigner

The truth is the most powerful weapon the pro-life movement has.

That's the driving idea behind a new series of videos released this week explaining different abortion procedures and the deadly effect they have on unborn children.

Dr Anthony Levatino, who has performed approximately 1,200 abortions, has teamed up with the pro-life group Live Action to shine a light on this area. Very often abortion advocates are extremely reluctant to discuss the process of abortion, as it shows exactly what goes on behind the closed doors of an abortion centre.

Abortion procedures explained

It's much more comfortable to talk in vague platitudes about "the products of conception", "gentle suction" or to claim that abortion is merely a "medical procedure" (how many other medical procedures end in the intentional killing of one of the patients?)

But as you can see in the video below, abortion is a violent act that kills an unborn child. By explaining different abortion procedures calmly and scientifically, Dr Levatino is demonstrating exactly what is wrong with abortion.

Warning: the video below contains medical animations rather than any graphic imagery, but some viewers may still find the content disturbing.

In working on these videos, Dr Levatino is using the medical expertise he gained as an abortionist for good.

He joins a number of former abortionists who have left the industry in order to work for the pro-life movement.

Abby Johnson

Abby Johnson was the director of a Planned Parenthood abortion ‘clinic’ in Texas, and the 2008 Planned Parenthood employee of the year. In 2009, she was left horrified after assisting in an ultrasound-guided abortion for the first time.

The experience led her to leave the abortion industry and join the pro-life movement, where she now runs an outreach programme, And Then There Were None, aimed at welcoming employees trying to leave the abortion industry.

Aleck Bourne

Dr Aleck Bourne was a gynaecologist and Abortion Law Reform Association supporter in London before abortion was legalised. In 1938 he challenged the law by performing an abortion on a vulnerable rape victim.

The result of the Bourne legal case was to give legal sanction for abortions to prevent damage to a woman's physical or mental health, a test which became interpreted more and more liberally, and which later led to the Abortion Act being passed in 1967.

Dr Bourne became appalled at the results of his actions and became an early member of SPUC.

Bernard Nathanson

Dr Bernard Nathanson co-founded the National Association for the Repeal of Abortion Laws (NARAL) in the US, later renamed the National Abortion Rights Action League.

He was also the former director of New York City’s Center for Reproductive and Sexual Health, then the largest abortion clinic in the world. He estimates that he was directly responsible for approximately 75,000 abortions.

In the late 1970s he turned against abortion to become a prominent pro-life advocate and produced the powerfully revealing abortion video The Silent Scream.
