Ann Furedi is the CEO of the UK's largest abortion business
Spiked has lent its support to a campaign called 'Back Off' led by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (BPAS). The article published by the online magazine famous for championing freedom of speech was written by Ann Furedi in her capacity as CEO of BPAS.
Furedi writes that praying or demonstrating outside abortion centres can "impede others' rights and freedoms". Mrs Furedi also writes that "freedom of speech gives you the freedom to state your views on abortion in whatever way you think best, but it does not accord you the right to state them to any specific person or in any specific place." [29 December, Spiked]
The official 'Back Off' campaign website states, "We believe we need specific legislation to ensure women can access pregnancy advice and abortion centres free from interference and intimidation, as has been enacted in other countries. We propose the establishment of "buffer" or "access" zones around registered pregnancy advisory bureaux and clinics, in which anti-abortion activity cannot take place."
Spiked are currently supporting a campaign to protest against censorship on university campuses.
