Is there no space for the father in the typical modern family?
A newly-erected statue in the centre of Birmingham has portrayed the typical modern family as consisting of two women, two born children and an unborn child.
The statue was designed by Gillian Wearing, whose brief was to select and portray 'A real Birmingham family' (the title of the statue) from 372 applicants. The family chosen were two sisters, Emma and Roma Jones, and their three children, including one unborn.
The two sisters stated that it "doesn't matter how a family is made up". John Hemming, the local MP, said: "There's absolutely nothing wrong with single parent families but I always find it sad when fathers are not involved in the lives of their children." [Breitbart, 1 November]
