A new study of half-a-million Danish women suggests significantly higher maternal death rates following abortion compared with delivery.

The study follows studies from Finland and Scotland which suggest that abortion is a risk-factor for premature births in subsequent pregnancies. [Peter Saunders, 6 September]

John Smeaton, SPUC's chief executive, commented: "The truth is that abortion is bad for women and these studies are providing compelling evidence of that truth."
