A ruling by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) in favour of a television advertisement by Marie Stopes International (MSI), one of Britain's main abortion providers, has been condemned by SPUC. Paul Tully, SPUC general secretary, said abortion advertising was dishonest and deceitful whether it promoted abortion directly or under the guise of so-called pregnancy advice. Mr Tully said the ad is offensive because its fundamental message is: 'we can kill unborn babies'.[SPUC, 4 August] http://bit.ly/bi52ck

British girl saved by windpipe made from her own stem cells
Doctors in Italy have performed life-saving surgery on a British girl with cancer by using her own stem cells to create new windpipes, which were biologically identical to her original organs. The nineteen year old was able to speak a few days after the operation. The windpipes were made by regenerating tissue from the patients' nose and bone marrow stem cells. Dr Walter Giovanni, from AOU Careggi hospital in Florence, Italy, said the surgery was a unique solution to a problem where the only other possible outcome was the death of the patient.
