A woman who damaged her unborn child by taking pregnancy-inhibiting drugs has been ordered by a judge not to get pregnant for 10 years. District judge Dorothy McCarter of Montana told Dawn Marie Spinkle to take a pregnancy-test every two months. If she tests positive, Ms Spinkle could go to prison. [http://www.newsunlimited.co.uk/international/story/0,3604,137872,00.html] Twin boys who were operated on in the womb with lasers were born healthy earlier this month. Paul and Ryan Votto of Vancouver, Canada, could have died because of defective blood supply from their mother, but treatment 16 weeks into the pregnancy was successful. This was the earliest stage at which endoscopic surgery had been done in north America. [Vancouver Sun reported in Pro-Life E-News,17 February, 2000] Mr Gary Bauer, the former Republican presidential candidate, has endorsed Senator John McCain, who has been accused by pro-life leaders of "waffling" on life-issues. Mr Bauer conceded that Mr McCain's position on abortion was "less absolute than [his] own" but said that Mr McCain had "by and large a pro-life voting record." Dr. James Dobson disagrees with Mr Bauer's endorsement.
