Sarah Palin offers hope to mothers of children with Down's Syndrome

The Daily Mail reported yesterday morning on a touching account given by Sarah Palin about raising her child Trig, who has Down's syndrome.
Sarah Palin's testimony on the joy of caring for a child with Down's syndrome is so important precisely because the eugenic abortion of disabled children has become so routine.
In the UK 92% of babies with Down's syndrome are aborted, as are about 90% of babies detected with spina bifida.
Mrs Palin said:
It's a sacrifice every parent and caregiver of a child with special needs sympathises with ... Yes, we face extra fears and challenges, but our children are a blessing, and the rest of the world is missing out in not knowing this.
In October last year L'Osservatore Romano ran an editorial analysis on the practice of eugenic abortions entitled 'Eliminate the imperfect'. Among the many disturbing features of that analysis was that in France 96% of foetuses with Down syndrome are aborted and recently a Parisian deputy declared in Parliament: "The real question I ask myself is why are there 4% left?"
Such chilling statements are the brutal realisation of Susan W. Enouen's speculation made in 2007 that:
If current trends continue, it may eventually become 'unacceptable' for parents to continue a pregnancy knowing that their baby has Down's syndrome.
Sarah Palin's testimony is a bold and encouraging witness to all those mothers caring for and carrying children with Down's syndrome.
Last year the United Nations adopted a resolution to designate 21st March as 'World Down Syndrome Day'. Such a day has tremendous potential to remind the world of the dignity and rights of people with Down's syndrome.
It is a shame therefore that there is no mention of the grave threat faced by people with Down's syndrome in the womb on the World Down Syndrome Day website. We at SPUC intend to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day and encourage everyone to mark this day by renewing their commitment to defend the lives of all unborn children.
