Safe at School calls for boycott of Pearson over LGBT materials

A leading parents' advocacy group has denounced moves by a major educational publisher as an LGBT take-over bid for the school curriculum.

SPUC Safe at School is calling on parents to protest following the announcement that Pearson, one of the biggest education publishers and the owner of the exam board, Edexcel, will be making its teaching materials LGBT inclusive.

Antonia Tully, SPUC Safe at School campaign officer, said: "We are calling on parents to contact their child's secondary school and asking the school to boycott Pearson materials and not to enter pupils into Edexcel exams.

"We have reached a point where there seems to be no place where our children can be free of this aggressive indoctrination about homosexuality.  I do not want my 16-year-old son to have his text books and exam papers littered with homosexual references.  I do not want him to have LGBT-specific vocabulary in his language lessons.  I shall be writing to my son's school and I urge other concerned parents to do the same".

Pearson has sponsored a handbook for secondary school produced by Stonewall, a homosexual rights organisation.

Antonia Tully continued: "Stonewall is being given unprecedented access to our children. This is particularly worrying in the light of the Ofsted announcement that decisions by headteachers will effectively trump the concerns of parents".
