London, : News that research into miscarriage is being expanded is welcome but abortion and related ethical issues shouldn't be ignored, says Britain's main pro-life group.
The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) made the comment about today's news that Tommy's, the charity, is establishing a National Centre for Miscarriage Research.
Paul Tully, SPUC's deputy CEO, commented: "Considering that a large minority of pregnancies are ended by spontaneous miscarriage, the pro-life movement welcomes more research into the causes of miscarriage and means of preventing it.
"However, we should not forget that for every four babies who are born, one is aborted, leading to emotional pain and long-lasting psychological trauma. We note that Tommy's has in the past presented abortion as an option for women whose unborn child may have been damaged by toxoplasmosis.
"We call upon Tommy's to disassociate itself from abortion and to promote life for all unborn children."
