Amnesty International has been hijacked by pro-abortion agenda

Amnesty International have been widely criticised for a new video lobbying for abortion-on-demand in Ireland, narrated by Liam Neeson, the Irish actor.

The video plays sinister music over black-and-white images of a run-down church, while Neeson’s voiceover claims that Ireland is haunted by "a cruel ghost of the last century". The video has been labelled offensive and anti-Catholic by many commentators.

Anthony Ozimic, SPUC’s media manager, commented: "The Liam Neeson video is just the latest example of the scandalous way in which Amnesty International has been turned into a pro-abortion lobby group. Amnesty is oblivious to the killing of unborn children and the harm to women caused by abortion.

"Amnesty was established as a charity in order to protect prisoners of conscience, and indeed religious people were among its founders. Amnesty has now been hijacked into campaigning to remove any legal protection from unborn Irish children. SPUC members, especially SPUC’s former chairman Michael Hill, fought tooth-and-nail to stop Amnesty being infiltrated by pro-abortion lobbyists."

SPUC has previously written about how Amnesty's decision to support abortion has lead to many prominent members resigning in protest. Read more about Amnesty's stances in our charities bulletin.
