Why women will be 'silent no more'

Why women will be 'silent no more' London, - Women who regret their abortions are gathering in Parliament Square, London, on Saturday (22 April) at 11.00 am to launch their own campaign entitled Silent No More. These women have decided to speak publicly of their personal abortion experiences in the hope that other women who can relate to their pain will know that they are not alone and that there is help available for them. Linda Porter of British Victims of Abortion, a post abortion counselling organisation, said: "We have chosen to launch this campaign in front of the Houses of Parliament where the Abortion Act was passed in 1967. The legacy of almost 40 years of abortion is that around five million women have made this decision and very many are left struggling in silence with their feelings of regret and loss. Comprehensive research needs to be supported to identify the full implication to a woman when she chooses abortion. Abortion is a clear indication that we have failed women. Women deserve better than abortion." Mrs Georgette Forney, a co-founder of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in America, will speak about the aftermath of the abortion she had at the age of 16, and about how she experienced healing and peace. Georgette says: "It is our hope that, regardless of how you feel about abortion, you will listen to what we have to say and consider whether women deserve better than abortion. I have travelled from America to stand alongside women from all over the UK because we want other women who can relate to our pain to hear about the hope and help we have found." A similar event will take place in Glasgow on Saturday 29 April. Extracts from personal testimonies are available.
