SPUC comments on survey of teachers' views of sex education Westminster, - The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children has responded to the result of a survey in today's Times Educational Supplement which suggests that most school-teachers want sex education lessons to include information about how to get an abortion. John Smeaton, SPUC national director, said: "It is not part of the job of educators, teachers or head teachers to promote the killing of unborn children. They have no business promoting unethical practices which harm the welfare of children in their charge. Teachers should, rather, ensure that pupils and students have access to information about the development of unborn children, as well as the full facts of what abortion involves. "SPUC is totally committed to providing such information and it is in demand throughout the country. We find that most teachers are open to the truth about abortion and the development of the unborn child. "We increasingly also find that parents, who have the most significant role in the education of their children, know that government policies promoting abortifacient birth control such as morning-after pills have not succeeded. "Research by Professor David Paton of Nottingham University has found that government attempts to reduce teenage pregnancy seem to be failing and sexually transmitted disease among older teenagers rose by 30% in five years, during which the government operated its £63m strategy."
