Withdrawal of abortion drug ads victory for life, says SPUC
Withdrawal of abortion drug ads "victory for life", says SPUC Westminster, - The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) is delighted that the campaign of protest and prayer against misleading and blasphemous morning-after pill advertisements has been successful. Schering, the makers of Levonelle, have withdrawn their "Immaculate Contraception" advertisement "in recognition of the religious concerns expressed to us", admitting that it was "not appropriate" (Schering statement reported by Reuters). Anthony Ozimic, SPUC political secretary, commented: "The offensive nature of the advertisement was a reflection of the offensive nature of the abortion-inducing morning-after pill. Despite withdrawing the advertisement, Schering continue to offend against the truth and against life by promoting the drug as a contraceptive, when in many cases it causes an early abortion. "We urge the Government, health care providers and public companies to learn from the public backlash against the advertisement and dissociate themselves from Schering until Schering stops promoting this anti-child, anti-woman product. "Our heartfelt thanks to all our supporters who complained to various bodies about the advertisement and/or who have been praying in support of the campaign against it."
