SPUC condemns abortion review debate as journalistic hype

SPUC condemns abortion review debate as "journalistic hype" Westminster, - The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC), the world's first pro-life lobbying group and the largest pro-life group in Europe, has condemned the current debate on abortion law reform as "journalistic hype". Anthony Ozimic, SPUC political secretary, commented: "Recent stories about a review of abortion law are inaccurate and exaggerated. The parliamentary motions calling for a review cited in recent days were poorly supported and were public knowledge over a month ago. "Even if the claim that most MPs support a review of abortion law was true, any review would still be in the hands of Parliament's pro-abortion majority. "Abortions will increase in number if MPs repeat the mistake of 1988-1990 by supporting a review, as any attempt at reform would again be wide open to hijack by the pro-abortion lobby, which calls explicitly for total deregulation of abortion. "A Labour MP quoted as considering tabling a bill to review the law, Andy Burnham, appears to support open-access abortion services and wants nurses to perform abortions. "Lord David Steel has made clear that what he really wants is to enshrine in law abortion on demand in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. "The secular media is acting hypocritically by publishing a few, attention-grabbing picture stories about later abortions whilst ignoring the 87% of the 185,000 annual killings of unborn children which occur early in pregnancy. The push for a review of abortion law is not driven by pro-life concerns but by journalistic hype."
