SPUC calls for democratic voting system for elections

SPUC calls for democratic voting system for elections Westminster, - The Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) has reiterated its call for voters to be allowed to vote for candidates rather than parties in European Parliament elections. Paul Tully, SPUC's general secretary, said: "It is unlikely that the introduction of postal votes will help the electorate to engage with the political system whilst voters are denied the choice of backing individual candidates. "The current system in force in Britain denies voters the right to select their preferred candidates. It is virtually impossible for responsible voters to take into account issues such as abortion and euthanasia. Candidates within parties often differ enormously on these issues. Voters should therefore be permitted to choose candidates they want, not just the party."
