MLAs and MEP to attend Stormont launch of book on abortion threat Newtownabbey, --MLAs from the DUP and SDLP, and a Member of the European Parliament, will speak at the launch in Stormont next week of a book which warns that Northern Ireland's predominantly pro-life culture is under threat. Mr Nigel Dodds MLA, Mr Danny O'Connor MLA and Mrs Rosemary Scallon MEP (Dana) will each give an address at the launch of A way of life, which is being published by the Northern Ireland section of the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children (SPUC) today-week (4 March). Mrs Betty Gibson, chairman of SPUC Northern Ireland, said: "The people of Northern Ireland are almost unanimous in their abhorrence of abortion, embryo experimentation, cloning and euthanasia. This is a consensus which goes across the political and religious spectrum here. However, external forces would like to change the situation in Northern Ireland, against the will of the majority. Moreover, the Family Planning Association, a member of the London-based International Planned Parenthood Federation, is trying to introduce easily available abortion here. "Our book describes the Northern Ireland situation and puts it in the context of the global struggle between the forces of life and death. It is a call to the people of Northern Ireland to re-assert their belief in the sanctity of all human life." The launch-ceremony at Parliament Buildings, Stormont, will begin at 15:00 today-week (4 March) and will last no longer than 90 minutes. Mr Dodds will begin with a 10-minute address. Mr O'Connor will then also speak for 10 minutes and will be followed by a 15-minute address by Mrs Scallon. The speakers will then join a panel to answer questions. The panel will also include Mrs Gibson and John Smeaton, SPUC's national director.
