The London Assembly will be discussing Pro-Life demonstrations outside of abortion providers on the 21st of December.
We call on the Members of the London Assembly to stand up for freedom of speech.
Dear London Assembly,
Our free society is built on the tolerance given to different opinions in public life and the members of the assembly must promote freedom of speech and freedom of assembly as a vital part of an open democracy.
The Assembly must recognise that a justly ordered society requires genuine evidence of any harassment to warrant any restrictions on personal freedoms. It should also reject the insidious tactics of pro-abortion campaigners to make unsubstantiated claims in order to incite hatred against peaceful pro-life supporters.
There is a lack of any evidence that any form of intimidation takes place near abortion clinics other than the pro-abortion groups who try to intimidate pro-life counsellors offering an alternative to abortion by filming them and at times chanting at them.
If passed, this motion will ease the ability of abortion providers to deceive women, increases abortions and prevent vulnerable women from accessing the last minute support, help and information many so desperately need.
Yours,

In view of the invaluable service provided by pavement counsellors, and the lack of concrete evidence to implicate them in any harmful action towards the women they go out to help, SPUC call on the London Assembly to reject the unsubstantiated claims inciting hatred against peaceful pro-life supporters, and promote the freedom of speech and freedom of assembly that is a vital part of an open democracy.
