Pro-Life Feminism

Pro-life feminists represent a growing number of women who believe passionately in women’s empowerment and in the need to build a just society in which men and women are treated as equals.

Pro-life feminists also accept the scientific reality that the unborn child is a human life deserving of the same protection as any other member of the human family. A truly just and egalitarian society will not sacrifice the lives of its most vulnerable members for any reason.

A sign of failure not liberty

In the words of Feminists for Life of America, "abortion is a reflection that our society has failed to meet the needs of women."

If the abortion procedure were as liberating as campaigners claim, women would be told the stark truth of what abortion involves rather than being patronised with claims about 'gentle suction' removing 'the products of conception.

If the abortion lobby believed its own rhetoric about giving women choice, women would receive clear, unbiased information about the nature of the operation they were considering, including their baby's stage of development; women would be fully informed of all the alternatives. It is impossible to talk about choice without talking first about informed choice.

Human rights violations

In the name of 'abortion rights', human rights violations involving abortion are ignored or covered up; doctors such as Kermit Gosnell in the United States who ran a filthy and dangerous abortion facility for seventeen years, murdered in excess of one hundred new born babies and risked the lives of countless women, was protected by the very agencies and government departments established to protect women.

A recent study of trafficking victims conducted in the United States found that abortion facilities were performing abortions - including forced abortions - on trafficking victims, with Planned Parenthood specifically mentioned because 'they don't ask any questions.' One respondent claimed that some of her six abortions were performed by a doctor who was one of her pimp's clients.

If abortion facilities carry out abortions on trafficking victims against their will then hand them back to their abusers, the abortion industry is effectively colluding in the enslavement of women.

The Greatest Bioethical Atrocity on the Globe

China's coercive one-child policy has been described as "a barbaric experiment in social engineering" and as 'the greatest bioethical atrocity on the globe'. Through the implementation of this policy, the Chinese authorities - with the co-operation and support of western aid agencies - have interfered with the most intimate aspect of women's lives.

Since its implementation in 1979, millions of women have been subjected to forcible contraception, sterilisation and abortion. Those who resist have been threatened - along with their families - with financial ruin, loss of employment, imprisonment, torture and the destruction of their homes if they commit the crime of bringing 'unauthorised' children into the world.

Contrary to media reports, the One-Child Policy has not been 'relaxed' or 'reversed'. The state still reserves the right to control the fertility of every woman in the country by force if necessary.Thirty-five years after these brutal measures were introduced across China, few feminist voices have been raised against this systematic abuse and control of women which has turned giving birth into an act of political defiance.

Forced abortion is surgical rape; forcibly preventing a couple from establishing a family in the name of 'regulating the population' is a direct violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Authentic feminism is pro-life feminism

The idea that the most vulnerable human lives can and should be sacrificed in the name of choice is neither pro-life nor is it authentically feminist.

'Choice' is the buzzword of consumerism, the determination to maintain control at the expense of others belongs to patriarchy, not a movement that was founded to fight for equality and justice.

Pro-life Feminism picks up the mantle of the first feminists and fights for equal rights for all - first and foremost the right to life, without which all other rights are meaningless.
