It has been reported that five Malaysian women have died after consuming abortion drugs. According to the Malaysian Health Minister, the deaths occurred within a two-year period.
It was reported in the Malay Mail that: "Four of the cases (of death) were caused by bleeding after delivery, while another case involved amniotic fluid embolism. All the cases involved the intravaginal insertion of misoprostol (abortifacient chemical)."
The Health Ministry has also recorded three additional cases that were classified as life- threatening to the women who consumed the abortion drugs.
Worldwide complications
The complication rates and cases associated with abortion drugs have been reported repeatedly around the globe. However, despite the abortion drugs causing damage and even death to women, the drugs are continuously hailed as ‘safe and simple’ by pro-abortion advocates and notably so by Ann Furedi, Chief Executive of Britain’s largest abortion provider.
It was only last year that the Food and Drug Administration (US) updated their guidance to reveal the disturbing reality that 22 American women died following the administration of abortion drugs. The FDA website revealed: "As of December 2017, there were reports of 22 deaths of women associated with Mifeprex (abortion drug) including two cases of ectopic pregnancy resulting in death and several cases of severe systemic infection (sepsis) including some that were fatal."
It is reported that the 22 women died from a range of complications induced by the abortion drugs including liver failure, sepsis, toxic shock syndrome and haemorrhaging.
The FDA report continued to describe the appalling side effects inflicted upon women consuming the drugs. Between 2000-2012, there were 2740 cases of reported complications associated with the abortion drugs. The past five years witnessed an average of 289 complications annually which included 273 hospitalisations, 103 infections and 182 cases of blood loss resulting in urgent transfusions.
The dangerous effect of abortion drugs has been evident around the globe, and women in the United Kingdom too have also suffered after being administered abortion pills. The 2017 England and Wales abortion statistics revealed that two women died in the UK over the past five years following abortion complications. Chemical abortions, induced by drugs, have a higher complication rate compared to surgical abortions. The complications associated with chemical abortion include sepsis, haemorrhaging, blood transfusion and hospitalisation.
Unsettling home use
Disturbingly, in the past two years both the Scottish and UK Governments agreed to administer the abortion drug misoprostol for home use. According to the new guidelines, a woman undergoing a chemical abortion, can now perform a ‘DIY abortion’ and self-administer the second abortion drug in her home.
John Deighan, SPUC Deputy CEO said: "The potential health risks for mothers and their babies are horrific. For the sake of women’s health and the universal right to life we cannot stand idly by whilst such a detrimental measure is implemented in the name of healthcare."
SPUC Scotland is currently challenging the Scottish Government’s controversial plan to permit ‘DIY abortion’, and they appeared back in Edinburgh Court of Sessions last month to appeal the decision. SPUC has challenged the decision on the legal ground that the new home-abortion policy is not permitted by the procedures established by the 1967 Abortion Act.
A decision from the Court is likely to take several months.
