A 17-year-old boy has pleaded guilty to murdering his pregnant girlfriend and his unborn baby when he found out that she left it too late for an abortion. 16 year-old Breana was stabbed repeatedly in the heart by boyfriend Aaron because she chose life for her unborn baby. Her mutilated body was left in a bin.
SPUC has said: "This is a tragic case and shows the need for more educational outreach to inform young people about the sanctity of human life and the importance of relationships."
Aaron Trejo, from Indiana, has admitted in court that he planned to murder his teenage girlfriend, Breana, and their unborn baby, after discovering she was six months pregnant and could not get an abortion. Trejo stabbed 16 year-old Breana repeatedly in her heart, and stuffed her body in a rubbish bag before leaving her in a bin.
SPUC Communications Officer, Grace Browne said: "Sadly society is giving a message to young men like Trejo that human life is disposable. It is vital that more should be done to protect pregnant women and girls like Breana and their unborn children."
Trejo told the police that he had stabbed Breana because he was angry that she had waited so long to tell him about the pregnancy and it was too late for an abortion.
Trejo who is expected to be sentenced on January 7th, will be imprisoned between 45 and 65 years for Breana’s murder and between three and 26 years for feticide.
Ms Browne continued: "Violence against pregnant women and their unborn children is mounting.
"Our society promotes abortion as a ‘woman’s right’ but is failing to protect those women who reject abortion and choose life. A tragedy like that of Breana must never happen again."
Murder: A leading cause of death for pregnant women
Disturbing statistics from the US health institute Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reveal that murder is a leading cause of death for pregnant women.
According to a report released in July 2019, over 525 pregnant women and girls were murdered in the USA by their partners in 2015.
As reported by SPUC, there is a growing epidemic of violence against pregnant women surfacing in Britain
In 2016 a 22 year-old man kicked and stamped on his pregnant girlfriend's stomach when she was eight months pregnant because she refused to have an abortion.
Similarly, in 2016, a 41 year-old man was jailed for repeatedly stabbing his pregnant girlfriend who was also eight months pregnant.
