President Trump has confirmed that he will attend the 2020 Washington March for Life, making him the first President in US history to do so. This has prompted SPUC to call on all world leaders to stand against abortion and the destruction of innocent human life. John Smeaton, SPUC Chief Executive said: "This is a remarkable moment for the pro-life movement in the United States and indeed across the world. SPUC calls on all world leaders to similarly defend the most vulnerable of their nation."
The President announced yesterday evening, 22nd of January, that he will be attending the annual Washington March for life on 24th of January. The Washington March for Life is the world’s biggest pro-life gathering with hundreds of thousands expected to attend tomorrow in protest of abortion.
Vice President Mike Pence was present at the 2019 March for Life where he assured the crowd of the Administration’s opposition to abortion. President Trump also addressed the 2019 March via video call.
Earlier this week, President Trump proclaimed January 22nd, National Sanctity of Human Life Day. His declaration came on the 45th anniversary of Roe v Wade, the infamous Supreme Court ruling which set the precedent for legalised abortion in the United States.
Mr Smeaton added: "Whilst we look forward to hearing what President Trump has to say, SPUC would like to use this unique occasion to call on all world leaders to address the destruction of human life through abortion.
"From the appointment of pro-life judges and federal workers, to cutting taxpayer funding for abortions in the United States and abroad, President Trump and his administration have made a consistent effort in tackling the issue of abortion."
