“We will not rest; we will not compromise” says SPUC, as officials call for abortion free-for-all until 24 weeks in NI

UK health-bodies have recommended that unborn children in Northern Ireland could be killed for any reason until 24 weeks without restriction. Responding to the proposal, Liam Gibson, SPUC Northern Ireland Political Officer said: "Regardless of the detail of the abortion regulations imposed on us…SPUC will not rest. We will not compromise. We will not stop until this legislation is repealed, and abortion is abolished."

Responding to the ongoing framework for abortion in Northern Ireland, UK health bodies have agreed that unborn children could be killed by abortion without restriction until 24 weeks gestation.

The health bodies involved in the proposal include the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG), the Royal College of Midwives and the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare.

Liam Gibson, SPUC Northern Ireland Political Officer said: "Regardless of the detail of the abortion regulations imposed on us, SPUC’s message and values will remain the same: abortion is the intentional killing of an unborn baby. Abortion is unacceptable: destructive of the child, the mother, our health service, and our wider society. SPUC will not rest. We will not compromise. We will not stop until this legislation is repealed, and abortion is abolished."

"Abortion industry has made a call for war against babies"

In July 2019 Westminster politicians fast-tracked legislation which repealed Northern Ireland’s existing law prohibiting abortion on grounds of disability. A new legal regime, due to be introduced by 31 March 2020, is expected to be more extreme than the current law in Scotland, England and Wales and will permit abortion with ‘unrestricted access…available without conditionality.’

Mr Gibson continued: "The abortion industry has made a call for war against babies in their mother’s womb.

"Under the proposals a woman in Northern Ireland will have the legal right to have her child killed at the taxpayer’s expense, for any reason or none, up to the child’s 24th week in the womb.

"By making such radical proposals, the abortion industry hopes to make the Secretary of State’s upcoming regulations appear moderate, which will likely legalise the killing of unborn babies up to 12 or 14 weeks gestation. If the killing of unborn babies is tolerated in Northern Ireland, and we follow a similar trend to that of Great Britain, one-in-five of all pregnancies will end with the deliberate killing of the child."
