Bentley Boyers, a toddler from Michigan, was born with a cleft palate that causes an opening or split in the roof of the mouth. A cleft palate can be corrected. However, in the United Kingdom an unborn child diagnosed with this condition can be aborted up to birth.
Bentley’s family had originally set out to buy some chickens when his dad spotted a puppy that had a cleft palate. Bentley’s parents decided immediately to adopt the puppy for their son, saying “we need her".
Bentley’s mum, Ashley, said: “To see Bentley have something in common with a puppy means a lot, because he can grow up and understand that him and his puppy both have something that they can share in common.”
According to Bentley’s parents, the puppy has not had its cleft palate corrected. However, they have been assured that this will not affect its quality of life.
Killed for having a cleft palate
During 2019, 3,394 unborn children in Britain were killed by abortion for having a disability. 17 of these unborn children were killed for having a cleft palate.
In Britain during the past 10 years, 240 children with cleft palates have been killed by abortion.
