Thousands unite in Berlin to march against abortion

An estimated 3,000 people gathered in at the German March for Life in Berlin to promote the value of human life and call for an end to abortion. Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications said: “We commend the people of Berlin for their unity and determination to protect unborn lives. Only when we unite and change hearts and minds up and down the country will we be able to build a culture of life.”

The German March for Life was organized by Bundesverband Lebensrecht (BVL) and took place on September 19. Thousands of Germans concerned about the human rights and treatment of unborn children marched through the centre of Berlin under the banner “We Love Life”.

100,000 unborn children killed by abortion each year in Germany

In Germany, abortion can take place until week 12 of pregnancy or up to birth if the unborn child is suspected of having a foetal anomaly or if the wellbeing of the mother is thought to be at risk.

An average of 100,000 unborn children are killed by abortion every year in Germany.

Those marching in Berlin demanded an end to all abortion in Germany.

There were also calls for an end to assisted suicide, and for the ethical production of vaccinations which did not include cell lines from aborted babies.

Global support for abortion decreasing

Earlier this month, SPUC reported on how global support for abortion has declined by 5% since 2014.

Last year pro-life demonstrations in cities worldwide reached record attendance.

2019 saw over 5,000 people attend the London March for Life. Berlin’s 2019 March for Life attracted over 8,000 people. Austria’s 2019 March for Life doubled in attendance compared to previous years with nearly 5,000, whilst 15,000 people joined the Dutch March for Life. SPUC reported on the ground-breaking 50,000 people in attendance at the 2019 Slovakian March for Life.

SPUC’s Michael Robinson added: “It is encouraging to see pro-life people across the world unite in defence of unborn children.

“Over the years we have witnessed pro-abortion regulations become increasingly extreme. It is positive to see the pro-life culture unify and fight back against such barbarity. We hope that this strength and unity within the pro-life movement will continue and that full protections will be restored to every human life.”
