The lives of some unborn babies in Northern Ireland have been temporarily spared as chemical abortions which use abortion pills have been suspended due to ‘limited resources’. Philip Lynn, SPUC Northern Ireland Development Officer said: “It is important not to mistake this turn of events for a pro-life victory. Pro-abortion advocates are already directing aborting mothers to other health trusts.”
This month, chemical abortion has become unavailable in many areas across the Northern Health Trust.
However, women seeking chemical abortions in the regions of Antrim, Cookstown, Magherafelt, Ballymena and Coleraine are to be ‘re-directed’ to other providers in Northern Ireland.
Waiting time could save unborn children
Grace Browne, SPUC Communications Officer added: “It is important to remember that recently in the Republic of Ireland, it was reported how almost 1,000 unborn babies were saved from abortion after their mother’s changed their mind due to a three-day waiting period. Whilst this lapse in resources has not necessarily saved unborn lives, we can only hope that this temporary delay, no matter how short, may give some women the time to change their mind and choose life for their baby.”
Full legal protection must be restored for unborn children
Approximately 100,000 people are alive today because Northern Ireland did not introduce abortion in 1967.
However, as reported by SPUC, during October 2019, Westminster imposed a “radical abortion regime on Northern Ireland without democratic consent.”
Since abortion was forced onto the people of Northern Ireland, 664 unborn children have been killed.
SPUC’s Mr Lynn added: “According to reports, resumption of early medical abortions in the Northern Trust, and the allocation of additional funds from the public purse, will require Ministerial sign-off. We ask Health Minister, North Antrim MLA Robin Swann, to represent the views of his electors by refusing to support initiatives that will result in the death of the most vulnerable in our society.
“Ultimately, however, the only just solution to abortion in Northern Ireland is the repeal of the abortion legislation contained in Section 9 of the NI (Executive Formation etc) Act, and the restoration of full legal protection for unborn children.”
