Adelee Hernandez, daughter of Christian missionaries Miranda and Tobi, was born prematurely in Indiana, USA, at 26 weeks weighing only 1 pound, 3 ounces.
The parents had suffered nine miscarriages previously after another premature baby, a son, had sadly not survived.
Tobi described Adelee, born at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, as “a miracle…She’s our miracle baby.”
Of course, “there have been some low days”, said Miranda. “There are always moments. Faith doesn’t prevent you from being human or having thoughts of what’s going to happen and where will we end up. But faith is what picks you back up.”
The Hernandezes were in Mexico working as missionaries, accompanied by their 12-year-old daughter Isabella, when Miranda discovered that she was pregnant. Learning that the baby was small and would likely be born, they all travelled back to the United States where Adelee was born on 18 October.
Miranda said: “Jesus has been our strength, and we know he’s used the hand and feet of all these doctors and nurses through this time, and he’s sustained us. To him be all the glory for that.”
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “This is a truly heart-warming story. The strength of Adelee’s parents, as well as the fighting spirit of Adelee herself, is remarkable. Life matters and we should treasure every child as the gift it is.”
