“Revolting practices”: Fake doctors found aborting babies in Marie Stopes abortion clinics in Kenya

Abortion giant Marie Stopes International (MSI) has been forced to close some clinics in Kenya after “fake doctors” were found aborting babies in illegal abortions. Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications said: “Reports pouring out of Marie Stopes abortion clinics of revolting practices never seem to stop. For years Marie Stopes International has been accused of performing illegal abortions around the globe. How long will MSI be allowed to continue? How far will this go before our Government stops funding MSI atrocities?”

According to media outlets, the bodies of ten dead babies were found “decomposing” in a rubbish bin at a MSI clinic in Kenya.

Following a search of the grounds, Kenyan authorities revealed that they had arrested fake doctors on suspicion of performing illegal abortions in the MSI facility.

In a statement the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council said: “The two have been arrested on suspicion that they were part of a team procuring abortions at the said facility…The Council wishes to clarify that the 2 individuals are NOT duly registered medical practitioners. The Council has since ordered the closure of the health facility and suspended its Registration Certificate and Operating License to pave way for investigations.”

MSI scandals in Africa

MSI promotes abortion in 37 counties and kills an average of 4 million unborn children each year.

Despite MSI stating “access without quality isn’t access” the abortion giant has continued to come under fire for flouting the law and their poor health and safety conditions.

According to the publication NCRegistrar, in 2017 a whistle-blower, who was the former manager of an MSI clinic in Uganda, alleged that abortions were ”performed on minors”, and that a staff member who was not a doctor would perform abortions whilst a nurse would speak to the patient to distract her from the pain, as a loud radio was played in the background. The former manager said: “As the girl continues to cry and shout, the radio is increased so it distracts the outside from the inside.”

In 2018, the Kenyan Medical Practitioners Board banned Marie Stopes International from performing any abortion service. Less than two weeks after this action, Niger ordered the closure of MSI clinics for facilitating illegal abortions.

Funding atrocities in Britain and beyond

Following a Marie Stopes abortion in Ealing England in 2012, 32-year-old Aisha Chithra died from catastrophic internal bleeding.

In 2016, the Care Quality Commission uncovered a catalogue of abuses and safety violations at Marie Stopes UK clinics, which included paying staff financial bonuses for encouraging abortion and leaving dead unborn children to rot in open bins.

SPUC’s Michael Robinson said: “The actions of Marie Stopes in this country and in Africa are putting women’s health at serious risk.

“The UK Government continues to fund MSI and in the last five years the abortion giant has been given £163 million. The organisation's financial report revealed that the former Department for International Development (DFID) was the single biggest donor, granting £44 million. This is despite a ComRes poll showing that 65% of the public oppose UK taxpayers’ money being spent on abortions overseas.

“The actions of Marie Stopes are a huge betrayal of women and girls and it is vital that we stop funding this abortion provider.”
