Kat Cammack, 32, who in November became a representative-elect of the United States House of Representatives, has said she will fight for the unborn just as her mother fought to keep her.
Congresswoman-elect Cammack’s mother, Ginny, was advised to abort her after previously suffering a stroke when pregnant with Cammack’s sister at the age of 27. Having struggled to walk again, her mother was warned by doctors that another pregnancy might kill her.
Six years after her first pregnancy, Ginny became pregnant with Cammack. Despite being begged by her mother to abort her, she refused.
“My mom chose life, which was very difficult for my family”, said Cammack.
“For her to make that choice against the advice of her doctors and against the urging of her own family, that’s pretty powerful. So for me, that’s why I am personally pro-life.”
Cammack hopes to use her platform to defend the unborn and call out hypocrisy wherever she sees it. “We’ll classify bacteria on Mars as life, but we won’t classify a heartbeat in the womb as life”, she pointed out.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “Such inspirational stories as these also lead us to ponder how many more individuals like Cammack have been saved by heroic mothers who chose life – and how many men and women have also, tragically, been thrown away in circumstances far less dangerous than the situation her mother faced.
“Every life counts. Cammack knows this well. Had her mother not resisted the urges of her family to abort her, Cammack would not be here today. We have much to thank her mother for.”
