Shaun Wilson, 22, from Dundee, threatened to kill his girlfriend’s baby if she did not abort it, a court has heard.
The young woman, whom Mr Wilson abused when he was 14-years-old, was one of a number of women that were subject to domestic abuse by the accused.
In 2013 and 2014, Mr Wilson is said to have shouted at, threatened and abused the victim in Dundee.
When the girl became pregnant around March 2014, the accused became angry and threatened to kill the baby if she did not have an abortion.
Mr Wilson has admitted to abusing multiple women, abuse that included threats, coercion and seizing women by the throat.
Sheriff Lorna Drummond has deferred sentence to await further reports. She said: “There are six charges and it is all serious domestic offending and your record makes it more serious.”
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “Abortion, as this case shows, is part of a broader abuse of women subject to threats, both verbal and bodily, often leading to coercion into the termination of a baby.
“As a result of COVID-19 and lockdowns, women stuck indoors with an abusive partner are especially vulnerable. As SPUC has highlighted numerous times over the past year, the introduction of DIY home abortion can facilitate coerced terminations by allowing men to obtain pills under false pretences.
“As SPUC reported last month, 84% Scots are concerned that DIY home abortion could result in women being coerced into having an unwanted abortion.”
