A petition has been launched that calls for Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, to consider the stories of women who have been hurt by abortion. The petition is hosted on CitizenGo and was created by Her Voice, an initiative of SPUC.
Margaret Akers, Her Voice facilitator, said of the petition: “It is an important opportunity to call for Matt Hancock, who is primarily responsible for regulations around healthcare, to take into consideration the stories of women who have been adversely affected by abortion.
“So often these women are ignored because their stories do not fit the ‘pro-choice’ cultural narrative. But, their voices are important. They tell us of the harm abortion can do. If the Health Secretary were to truly listen, he may realise that abortion is not suitable women’s healthcare.”
Hancock must consider the experience of women
The petition includes quotes from women like Amy, who said of her abortion: “I don’t have to be grateful for the abortion. I don’t have to say thank you. And I can say I was badly advised and I was left without a choice. It wasn’t my choice.”
The decisions that Matt Hancock makes regarding abortion regulation have a direct impact on the lives of tens of thousands of women and their children every year.
Margaret Akers said: “The impact of abortion in this country is astronomical. It is of the utmost importance that those making decisions around it take into consideration the voices of those who have been most hurt by it.”
