Jessica Barnes was a student dating a drug addict when she became pregnant at the age of 21. Booking a total of four abortion appointments, she thanks God for thwarting each one.
The trepidation that Jessica felt, discovering she was pregnant, was hard to deal with, she has explained. Having no money and no family to fall back on, she scheduled an abortion at Planned Parenthood.
But when Jessica arrived at the abortion clinic, she was suddenly overcome by an anxiety attack. Stepping over the threshold would, she knew, doom her child. She could not enter.
After booking two more appointments, the same anxiety attacks happened again.
Finally, after booking the fourth and final appointment, reaching the deadline for a legal abortion, Jessica told God: “I can’t have this baby […] If you don’t want me to have this abortion then you have to physically stop me because I’m just going to numb myself out and do it even though I’m totally against it.”
As she was driven to her appointment, the car spun, resulting in a flat tyre. The spare tyre was also found to be deflated. At that moment, Jessica knew she would not be having an abortion.
“Instantly, I was overwhelmed with a complete sense of peace and I never questioned it again. I knew no matter what happened it was going to be okay.”
Her son, Ezekiel – meaning “God strengthens” – is now 11 years old. Jessica cannot imagine life without him.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “Jessica was pro-life, but admits fear got the better of her. Without a support base, abortion seemed the only alternative. Providentially, events intervened and saved her son.
“Pregnancy is a life-changing event that can cause great fear. We should not allow abortion giants such as Planned Parenthood to prey on that fear and on vulnerable women.
“What women such a Jessica require is support and good counsel, not abortion or abuse.”
