Pro-life concerns for the safety of women performing DIY abortions are shared by a majority of Scots who responded to the Scottish Government’s consultation on Future Arrangements for Early Medical Abortion at Home, says the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.
Michael Robinson, spokesperson for Scotland’s pro-life charity, SPUC Scotland, said:
“Overwhelmingly, people in Scotland have told the Scottish Government that DIY abortion has a negative impact on women’s safety.
“Pro-life and faith groups were by far the largest groups to respond to the consultation; 43% compared with 17% of women’s or abortion support groups.
“The Government is trying to dismiss pro-life responses, but these are the deeply held views of the growing pro-life community in Scotland, and we will not be silenced.
“Whichever way the Scottish Government slices the results of their consultation, a majority of Scots are saying that DIY abortion is unsafe for women.
“This is what must guide the Government in making its decision on whether DIY abortion is made a permanent policy.”
