Pro-abortion protesters have disrupted a pro-life prayer vigil in New York. Activists, dressed in diapers and covered in tape, performed a crude and disruptive routine in front of a group including an Orthodox priest and a young girl.
Last weekend, in New York, pro-lifers from the St. John the Forerunner Orthodox Pro-Life Society gathered peacefully outside an abortion clinic in Brooklyn. Numbered among the group was Father William Bennet of St. Nicholas Church in New York
As Father Bennet gave a prayer service, pro-abortion activists arrived and proceeded to disrupt the vigil.
Accompanied by cameramen, the activists staged a routine in front of the pro-lifers. The performance appeared to include the simulation of sex acts, as well as strangulation. Some had taped naked baby dolls to their heads, while others attempted to ring the pro-lifers in tape.
It is reported, too, that the activists struck a holy icon belonging to the pro-life Orthodox group.
Video footage also shows that the pro-abortion routine was performed in front of a young girl, who was visibly concerned.
The St. John Forerunner Orthodox Pro-Life Society said that “the point of their actions remains a mystery to everyone… It was only clear that they were for abortion; that is, for the right to kill children before birth.”
As the pro-abortion disturbance took place, the pro-lifers remained calm and continued to pray, refusing to be intimidated by the troubling behaviour taking place right in front of them.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “The dignity and steadfastness of the pro-lifers at this vigil must be commended, motivated most of all by love for their fellow human beings, including the unborn.
“As for the motives of the pro-abortion protestors, content to perform a crude, aggressive and bullying routine in front of a young girl, their actions also speak louder than words.
“This vulgar and petty demonstration is indicative of the pro-abortion cause, which advocates for the destruction of the good, without concern and without charity.”
