Women living near an abortion clinic are more likely to have an abortion according to a new study from the University of California-San Francisco.
Researchers studied U.S. county-level abortion statistics from 2015 and found that the relative proximity of abortion clinics significantly determined the number of women opting to have abortions.
The results of the study found that, in 2015, one abortion took place for every 47 women living within five miles of an abortion clinic in the U.S.
That same year, one abortion took place for every 249 women who lived 120 miles or more away from a clinic.
Accordingly, women who live within 5 miles of an abortion clinic are over five times more likely to have an abortion.
Researchers said that “the declines in the median abortion rate by travel distance category are clinically meaningful and have meaningful consequences”.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “Abortion is an industry that creates its market, trading in death, by taking advantage of vulnerable women who are often in a state of panic and emotional distress. The proximity of clinics to such vulnerable women leads to more abortion and more heartbreak.
“In 2010, a census suggested that Planned Parenthood was preying on black communities, since 79% of their surgical abortion facilities were within walking distance of African American or Hispanic communities.
“And, as a startling 2018 study found, in New York City, during 2016, more black babies were aborted than were born. New York is a city where rates of abortion are especially high, as this current study also showed.
“Rather than meeting demand, the existence of abortion clinics creates that demand, underlining the vital need for ‘sanctuary cities' for the unborn, outlawing such clinics.
“It is no surprise that Planned Parenthood, with only profit in mind, seeks to sue such cities.”
