The Biden administration is poised to force Americans to fund abortion under the guise of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as “Obamacare”, placing abortion on a par with healthcare.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking to overturn legislation that prevents the federal government from funding abortion.
The Hyde Amendment, that bans the use of federal taxes to pay for abortions except in instances of rape and incest, has long been the target of pro-abortion Democrats in Congress.
HHS is currently headed by pro-abortion extremist Xavier Becerra, appointed earlier this year by President Biden.
The HHS proposal seeks to relax legal restrictions that require insurance providers to collect ACA health payments separately from payments that fund abortion.
Obamacare (ACA), signed into law by President Barack Obama in 2010, requires all U.S. citizens and permanent residents to have health coverage, unless exempt.
The HHS proposal – dubbed a “gift to the abortion industry” – if enacted, would essentially constitute nationwide funding of the abortion industry through the back door.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “Abortion is not healthcare, it is an act of lethal violence directed at an unborn child. It is never justified.
“Once again, Xavier Becerra is persecuting pro-lifers by forcing them to pay for abortions. As SPUC has reported previously, when Becerra was Attorney General of California he insisted on making a convent of Catholic nuns pay for health insurance that funded abortion.
“It is clear that Joe Biden, who claims to be a practicing Catholic, and his pro-abortion acolytes like Becerra have no respect for the human rights of unborn children. Nor do they care for the countless women left psychologically scarred by abortion.[1]
“This HHS proposal is also a disgraceful attack on the rights of millions of Americans who conscientiously object to the killing of innocent children through abortion.”
