A school in Rutland has received a set of foetal models to use in their classes. The models were generously donated by the Rutland and Melton branch of SPUC.
Casterton College, a secondary school in Great Casterton, near Stamford, will use the models, worth £80, in their Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education classes.
The set includes five anatomically correct models of unborn babies at various stages of pregnancy, from 6 to 20 weeks, which will help students to understand how a child develops in the womb.
SPUC’s Rutland and Melton branch chairman, Frances Levett, and Midlands regional chairman, Bridget Francis, presented the gift to Casterton College’s head of PSHE, Katarina Bryjova.
Bridget Francis said: “We are delighted to be able to help a local college in this way. I am especially pleased, as I live in Rutland, and my husband and children all attended the college.
“Many schools do not know we have these marvellous accurate and detailed models available, and we would like more educational and other establishments to contact us if they would also like to receive a set to help them teach about the miracle of life.”
SPUC Comment
An SPUC spokesperson said: “SPUC is unique because it is a grass-roots organisation. Our chief strength lies in local people taking action in their own neighbourhood.
“SPUC is very proud of the work undertaken by its branches.”
