Retail giant, Asda Supermarket is to partner with Pampers to distribute free nappies for premature babies.
In the UK, one in every 13 babies is born prematurely. This means every year 60,000 babies require smaller sized nappies.
Fasial Tuddy, Asda’s Superintendent Pharmacist said: “We hope that by offering these nappies for free to new parents from our 254 Asda Pharmacies, those early weeks with a premature baby are made slightly easier."
The nappies, which can be collected from an Asda pharmacy, are made to soothe fragile skin and are designed with a customisable fit to accommodate medical equipment. The nappies will be available in three sizes and are designed to fit babies weighing less than 1.1lb up to babies weighing 4lbs.
Last year Pampers launched a similar initiative when the company delivered over 200,000 tiny nappies for premature babies to families around the world. Nicole Hallak, Pampers Brand Director said: “Pampers is committed to the happy, healthy development of every baby and this partnership allows all UK parents to access quality nappies with our trusted Pampers promise for their precious little ones.”
