A billboard advertisement in Texas calling on the U.S. state to ignore Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court ruling that made abortion a constitutional right in the United States, has been taken down after just one day following death threats.
Located 30 miles from the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the billboard ad included the phrase “62 million dead and counting”, referring to the estimated number of abortions in the United States since 1973, when the decision in Roe vs. Wade was handed down.
Abolish Abortion Texas (AATX), responsible for the ad, wants to “abolish abortion in Texas, regardless of what the Supreme Court says we can do”.
But the advert had to be removed after just one day when the owner of the property where it was displayed received death threats.
Jon Speed, the fund coordinator for the campaign and preacher at the First Baptist Church of Briar, said that the threats were a sad reflection of “how intolerant Texas has become…
“There are no graphic images on the billboard, not even a strong statement. It’s just a website that seeks to abolish abortion in Texas. The fact that this happened in rural Texas is not only surprising in a self-professed pro-life state, it indicates how weak that commitment is.”
Last month, Greg Abbott, the governor of Texas, signed into law a bill that would allow Texas to limit or ban abortion if the Supreme Court was to overturn its ruling on Roe vs. Wade.
Intolerance towards pro-lifers
Michael Robinson, SPUC Director of Communications said: “This is yet another worrying example of how intolerant and extreme pro-abortion advocates are, attempting to shut down free speech in the West.
“Given the pro-abortion lobby believes there’s nothing wrong with killing children, perhaps it’s not surprising that the landowner received death threats.
“Also this week, SPUC reported on the case of a student allegedly kicked out of medical school because of his pro-life views.
“Abortion advocates will stop at nothing to continue the slaughter of the unborn across the globe.”
