A pregnant woman’s burning body was discovered in Brazil after an argument with her boyfriend who wanted her to have an abortion. He is now the chief suspect in the murder case.
Tassila Kenha, 24, had just finished training as a firefighter when she became pregnant.
According to her family, her boyfriend attempted to coerce her into aborting their child. Soon after, she went missing while on her way to a bank.
Her charred and smouldering remains were later discovered on a road in the Brazilian countryside.
Property tycoon Gilvan de Barros Pinheiro, the boyfriend, is the primary suspect and is said to have transferred money to the victim for an abortion, according to local police.
A similar crime occurred last year in Brazil, when Ellen Priscila Ferreira, 24, was burned and killed by her boyfriend after she refused to abort their baby, as reported by SPUC.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “This is a truly horrific case and we hope and pray that whoever killed Tassila and her unborn baby is brought to justice.
“Unfortunately, the link between abortion and the violent, sometimes murderous, treatment of women by coercive boyfriends is unquestionable.
“This appears to be yet another example of a woman being murdered and even burned alive because she refused to consent to the culture of abortion that has swept the globe.
“Abortion does not protect women but exposes them even more to the abuses of men and the indifference of society.
“Mothers who wish to care for their babies are increasingly being let down by society, which continues to promote abortion and the culture of violence that it undoubtedly creates.
“This must stop.”
