Visitors to the 2021 Melton Mowbray Christmas Tree Festival have said that this year’s entry by SPUC’s Rutland and Melton branch was the “best yet”.
The annual Christmas Tree Festival at St. Mary’s Church, Melton Mowbray is thought to be the biggest of its kind in the UK and normally boasts up to 1500 trees. This year’s Covid restrictions reduced that number to 200, although the many visitors continued to be amazed by the creativity on display.
The trees represent the broad spectrum of schools, clubs, businesses, charities and families in the local area. Each year, the committed members of the Rutland and Melton branch of SPUC work together to decide on a theme which speaks up for unborn children.
This year’s theme was “Life is a gift… celebrate it!”. The tree was decked with little 12-week-old unborn babies in pink and blue gift boxes, black-and-white baby photos with glittery borders and two sashes quoting Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.”
Sandra Ford, Secretary of Rutland and Melton branch, said: “It was a real team effort, with branch members agreeing the theme, making the decorations themselves, putting the tree up and taking it down again.
“We hope that everyone who viewed our tree will have been blessed, encouraged and challenged by it.”
