Guatemalan President, Alejandro Giammattei, has revealed that the country will become the pro-life capital of Latin America in a move that will strengthen his government’s guarantee of the protection of life from conception to natural death.
It was a proposal made by the evangelical Iber- American Congress for Life and the Family, an alliance of politicians and activists from across Latin America. The Ibero-American Congress for Family and Life will be presenting a monument commemorating this historic event, which will be placed outside the Organisation of American States building in Washington D.C.
President Giammattei announced that the declaration will take place on 9th March 2022, in a solemn act, with a message of respect for life from conception.
Guatemala’s pro-life government
The Giammattei government has guaranteed pro-life rights in its Public Policy for the Protection of Life and the Institutionalisation of the Family.
Guatemala has already said that it would ban “the creation, registration or implementation of any organisation that goes against life”.
Aarón Lara, the president of the Ibero-American Congress for Family and Life, said that Guatemala is an excellent example of what a pro-life nation could look like.
He said: “Let’s look at Guatemala, the miracle is happening. We should be partying now.”
SPUC Comment
An SPUC spokesperson said: “Guatamela is showing the world what can be achieved by pro-life activists.
“President Giammattei is a staunch defender of life and must be congratulated for standing up to the powerful abortion lobby in protecting his citizens’ right to life.”
