American figure skater Michelle Kwan, 41, a two-time Olympic medallist, has given birth to a baby girl and has shared her delight online. “I had a hard time picturing what she might look like, yet it seems like she’s been in my life forever.”
Kalista Belle Kwan is Michelle’s first child. She posted the happy news on Instagram this week, writing that: “I’m overjoyed and tears of happiness are streaming down my face as I share the news… I’ve always wanted to be a mom and, to me, she’s a perfect miracle.”
Kwan’s pregnancy was difficult and certainly a “journey”, she commented. She had what she described as a “very long labour”, but “never gave up”.
Thanking her family, friends and medical staff, who helped her during her pregnancy, Kwan said: "I’ve wanted to share this happy news for many months but… each step of the way, I knew that there was still more time needed until I could hold her in my arms.”
Kwan won silver and bronze at the Nagano and Salt Lake Winter Olympics in 1998 and 2002 respectively.

“Such miracles put life in perspective and bring their own unique joy. Life matters.
“SPUC is delighted for Michelle and Kalista Belle. We wish them all the best, now and in the future.”
