Around 5,000 pro-lifers have gathered outside the Colorado State Capitol building in Denver for the “Celebrate Life Rally”, also marking the 49th anniversary of the deadly Roe vs. Wade ruling that legalised abortion across the United States in 1973.
“We’re here to spread the message of life and that abortion is wrong, and we need to stop it”, said twelve-year-old Noah Christopher, who attended the rally.
Numerous banners were seen at the well-attended event. Signs included, “Honk if your mom chose life”, “I used to be a fetus”, “Let God plan parenthood”, and “I was adopted not aborted”.
Denver talk show host Dan Caplis said: “None of us know whether Roe is going to be completely overturned or scaled back dramatically, but one way or another, Roe is dead – so give yourselves some credit!”
The US Supreme Court is currently considering whether to uphold a Mississippi law that seeks to reduce the abortion time limit to 15 weeks. Should it vote in favour of Mississippi, allowing the state to prohibit abortion before babies are said to be viable, the decision would undermine and possibly overturn Roe vs. Wade, as reported by SPUC.
Auxiliary Bishop Jorge Rodriguez of the Archdiocese of Denver said: “To defend the life of the unborn in a culture of death will require heroism, courage and suffering. It demands boldness and action. It is a matter of life and death.”
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “It is wonderful to see large numbers of people out on the streets defending life. Every life is a gift, which these events affirm and proclaim with dignity and love.
“These marches are important as they show that there are many people who will not back down in speaking up for the most vulnerable in society.
“Where there is love, there is hope; where there is hope, there is action.”
