Last Saturday, on 23 April, SPUC supporters took part in the organisation’s national Pro-Life Chain, giving peaceful witness to the millions of babies killed by abortion since 1968. Many supporters also prayed for an end to abortion.
SPUC’s Pro-Life Chain is an annual outdoor roadside witness, commemorating the millions of unborn babies killed by abortion since the implementation of the 1967 Abortion Act on 27 April 1968.
Since 1968, more than nine and a half million babies have lost their lives to abortion. Countless mothers and fathers have suffered as well.
On Saturday, hundreds of SPUC supporters of all ages turned out and stood vigil by roadsides. Many held large placards – signs that read: “Let Babies Live - Choose Life” – for all motorists and pedestrians to see.
Locations where the chains took place on Saturday, or where they are due to take place within the next couple of weeks, include Altrincham, Bury, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Harrow, Huddersfield, Hull, Kettering, Liverpool, Manchester, Middlesbrough, Newcastle, Peterborough, Plymouth, Preston, Salisbury, Southend and Walsall.
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “Pro-life chains are a moving testament commemorating the millions of babies robbed of life by abortion. Each life harmed by abortion is precious and must not be forgotten. SPUC and its supporters will continue to fight for every life.
“During this time of darkness, especially in the wake of such disgraceful political decisions as MPs voting to make DIY abortion permanent, it is so important that pro-lifers rally together, not simply for the pro-life movement, but for mothers and their unborn children in particular.
“Truly, our dedicated SPUC volunteers are a flame in the darkness.”
