Ex-abortionist, now “leading light” in pro-life medicine, awarded medal for services to “life and love”

An ex-abortionist, now a pro-life doctor, has been awarded a medal for using “his talents in service to building a civilization of life and love”.

Last month, the de Nicola Centre for Ethics and Culture, at Notre Dame University in the United States, awarded the 2022 Notre Dame Evangelium Vitae Medal to Dr John T. Bruchalski, a former abortionist who has become “a leading light in pro-life medicine”.

As a young doctor, Dr Bruchalski sought “to liberate women from the chains of their fertility”, he recalls. But after years of working as an abortionist, he realised that, far from helping him to liberate women, abortion ideology was forcing him to “see a woman’s body as much like a machine and its parts”.

Dr Bruchalski’s increasing doubts about abortion eventually led him to full conversion to pro-life truth and values; and in 1994, he founded the Tepeyac Family Centre (Virginia, USA), a pro-life obstetrics and gynaecology practice, assisting women regardless of their capacity to pay.

Funding issues later led Dr Bruchalski to create the non-profit, Divine Mercy Care, to promote pro-life healthcare, educate medical professionals and provide economic security for the Tepeyac Centre, so that “all women have access to the life-affirming care they deserve”.

In a statement, the de Nicola Centre said: “Dr Bruchalski is a shining example of the [Catholic] Church’s untiring commitment to directly serving mothers, children, and families…

“His personal conversion story… [and] visionary work at Tepeyac OB/GYN over the past 27 years [are] an invitation to each of us to employ our talents in service to building a civilization of life and love.”

SPUC comment

A SPUC spokesperson said: “We all have a choice regarding what and whom we serve. After spending many dark years in the abortion industry, Dr Bruchalski stepped into the light, choosing to serve the unborn.

“Congratulations to Dr Bruchalski for this award, as well as his life-affirming work at the Tepeyac Family Centre, which has done so much to help mothers and their families.”
