96% of mothers unable to have an abortion do not regret having their child, a “profound and telling” study has found.
A study of women who had an abortion, as well as women who were refused abortions, has shown that 96% of women denied an abortion did not regret having their babies at their child’s fifth birthday.
This figure rose even higher for women who kept their babies rather than giving them up for adoption.
For many women, this change of mind began very early. A week after abortion was denied, 59% of participants answered “yes” when asked if they still wished they could have an abortion; by the time the child was born, just 11% still preferred an abortion.
In the words of Camila, one study participant: “It’s just something that opens you up and changes you when you find out that you’re going to be [a mother]…
“You know, this is your new life, and this is just what’s going to happen. And a sense of peace came over me.”
SPUC comment
A SPUC spokesperson said: “This is a profound and telling finding that has barely been reported on by mainstream media and abortion apologists. Mothers are living their lives with children they now happily accept, children who would be dead today had their mothers been granted an abortion.
“The tragedy here is that there are not more studies like this, and that when there are, they are barely reported on – a disgraceful covering up of the truth.
“But the truth is the truth, which SPUC will continue to report to its supporters and the wider world. Mothers must be supported and told the truth about abortion.”
